Sarah Palin not running for President
Republican Sarah Palin will not run for the US presidency in 2012, she has confirmed in a letter to supporters, Sky News reports.
The former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential nominee in 2008 had been sending signals that she would not run.
And in a letter sent to supporters, she said she had taken the decision to rule herself out because "my family comes first".
"After much prayer and serious consideration, I have decided that I will not be seeking the 2012 GOP nomination for president of the United States," she said.
Her statement said she and her husband Todd "devote ourselves to God, family and country" and that her decision maintained that order.
Palin had often hinted that she might run for president in 2012 but never committed herself.
Her announcement came a day after New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said he would not run.
Republican insiders say the field of candidates is set and includes former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and Texas Governor Rick Perry.
Perry issued a statement in response to Palin's announcement, saying: "Sarah Palin is a good friend, a great American and a true patriot.
"I respect her decision and know she will continue to be a strong voice for conservative values and needed change in Washington."
