Gaddafi pushes for mass protests

Libyans are told to take the streets “in their millions” in resistance to the National Transitional Council by Gaddafi.

Although the location of Gaddafi remain unknown, Syrian-based Arrai television broadcast an audio message by Gaddafi who said that conditions in Libya have become “unbearable”.

Heavy fighting ensues in Libya as anti-Gaddafi forces and loyalist fight for the city of Sirte.

“I call on the Libyan people, men and women, to go out into the squares and the streets in all the cities in their millions… Go peacefully... be courageous, rise up, go to the streets, raise our green flags to the skies,” Gaddafi said in the audio broadcast on Thursday.

Gaddafi also warned those who recognise the NTC as having legitimate governing rights that the transitional councils will be continuously replaced by Western “power of fleets”.
