Gaddafi’s son wants to surrender - NTC
National Transitional Council says Gaddafi’s son, Saif al-Islam wants to surrender and face International Criminal Court for his crimes.
A National Transitional Council official said that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the only one of Muammar Gaddafi's eight children still on the run, proposed surrendering to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Saif al-Islam has been indicted for war crimes and wants to face international justice to avoid the same end as his father.
Gaddafi’s son wanted to surrender to the Dutch-based ICC with former intelligence chief and relative Abdullah al-Senussi according to an NTC official.
Talks of Saif al-Islam’s surrender were not, however, confirmed by an ICC spokesperson. S
aif al-Islam took refuge in Libya’s southern desert after he was unable to find safety in Algeria or Niger as did his other four siblings who survived the eight-month civil war according to NTC officials.
Saif al-Islam and Senussi have been indicted by the ICC for their role in using force in an attempt to suppress the uprising which began in February.
Gaddafi’s son was a philanthropist and liberal reform who unexpectedly became a soldier ready to die rather than surrender when rebels rose up against his father.
