Video | NZ helicopter crash captured on live tv
A helicopter helping to install a Christmas tree in Auckland, New Zealand, has crashed in dramatic fashion, but the pilot miraculously escaped serious injury.
Footage captured by Television New Zealand early yesterday showed the pilot slowly descending from about 25ft when the helicopter's blades appeared to get caught in cables attached to scaffolding.
The rear of the helicopter snapped and the pilot was tossed about as the aircraft smashed into the ground.
The television station said that pilot Greg Gribble, who has 20 years' flying experience, was "doing fine".
The wreckage came down just metres from workers, passers-by and multi-million dollar luxury yachts.
