Arab League threatens to freeze Syrian assets and plans travel ban

In an attempt to bring peace in Syria, the Arab League has threatened to freeze all of Syria’s assets and bring to an end all its commercial and financial dealings with the war-torn country.

Sky News reports a draft document imposed harsh sanctions, including the travel ban on senior Syrian officials and a halt to commercial flights to the country and dealing with the country's central bank.

Basic commodities would still be allowed into the country.

The document is to be discussed by Arab ministers.

The sanctions are the Arab League's latest attempt to bring an end to violence in the country after President Bashar al-Assad failed to comply with the League's peace plan.
