Peace finally takes over Tahrir Square in Cairo as the wait begins for initial results of parliamentary elections.

Violent clashes between security forces and protesters had overrun the headlines during the last two weeks.

Although no official results have been released, the Muslim Brotherhood and the Al Noor Salafi Muslim Party appear to have taken the lead.

Several Egyptians had boycotted the vote due to distrust of the system while others who voted hoped their votes would actually be recognised.

At least 88 people were injured during clashes which had recommenced on Tuesday and ended early this morning. Rocks, glass bottles, birdshot and Molotov cocktails were used to strike victims.
