Syria was criticised by the UN Human Rights Council on Friday due to numerous human rights violations. A recent report, which consisted of the abuses, was presented to UN bodies to consider appropriate action to be taken.

The council said it condemned the widespread violation of human rights by Syrian authorities such as violence and persecution of protesters.

Concerns were raised after a report was issued on Monday by the Independent International commission of Inquiry which said that crimes against humanity were committed by security and military forces against civilians.

Syria was urged to protect its people and put an end to all violations of human rights.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said that Syria faced a full-fledged civil war if violations against the rights of demonstrators were not stopped.

Pillay also said that in light of the failure of the Syrian authorities to protect the Syrian population, measures were urgently required to be taken by the international community to right their wrongs.

The UN Children’s Fund said it was “greatly disturbed” when presented with reports of the thousands killed which included 307 Syrian children.

Why not take action like it was taken in Libya?
