62% of eligible voters cast ballots in Egyptian elections
Head of election commission in Egypt says that the turnout of voters was one to be remembered and leaks of unofficial counts favour Muslim Brotherhood political party.
Head of election commission Abdel-Mooaez Ibrahim said that 62% of eligible voters participated in the first parliamentary elections in Egypt which was the highest in centuries.
Ibrahim did not reveal the full results for the first election process which is expected conclude in March in several stages.
The largest share of votes was won by the Muslim Brotherhood followed closely by the Egyptian bloc according to unofficial counts leaked by judges and individual political groups.
Ibrahim said that more than eight million voters cast their ballots in the first round of three rounds for 30% of the 468 seats in the parliament’s lower house.
