Diplomats return to home countries in Iran and Britain

British and Iranian diplomats return to their home countries following embassy ambush and Iranian diplomats receive supportive welcome.

Iranian diplomats forced out of Britain returned home to Iran to a big welcome from supporters who bore flowers and chanted “Death to England.”

The diplomats were extradited from Britain following the attack on the British embassy in Tehran due to sanctions being enforced by Britain over the nuclear programme feared to be aimed toward the development of atomic bombs.

Hundreds of men and women gathered at Imam Khomeini Airport to greet the Iranian diplomats upon their return with placards celebrating the closure of the embassy. The gathering was mainly made up of members of the extremist group Basij Militia.

All British diplomatic staff were evacuated by Britain and its embassy in Tehran was closed after the attack. Other countries such as France Germany, Italy and the Netherlands followed suit and recalled ambassadors from Tehran.

Iran has been further isolated by the rest of the world as a result of condemnation for its peoples’ actions.
