John Lennon remembered on the anniversary of his death
The world remembers John Winston Lennon’s 21st anniversary since being shot in New York on 8 December 1980.
The legendary singer-songwriter was shot and killed on 8 December 1980, in New York by Mark David Chapman.
Lennon was born in 1940 in Liverpool, England was a founder of The Beatles and together with Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr formed the world’s most famous band.
The Beatles first gate crashed the world scene in 1963 with ‘Love Me Do’ and split up in 1970 after dominating the world with Beatlemania and changing pop culture forever.
Lennon forged a formidable song-writing duo with McCartney although their relationship was not always rosy.
Some attribute the band’s breakup to Lennon's marriage with Japanese artist Yoko Ono with whom he went on to have a successful solo career with hits including ‘Imagine’, ‘Working Class Hero’, ‘God’, ‘Woman’, ‘Nobody Told Me’ and ‘Happy Xmas (War is Over)’.
