A suicide attacker driving a car bomb killed at least five people at the interior ministry in central Baghdad at around 0430 GMT. At least 27 others were injured.

The attack follows another attack on Thursday in which 70 people were killed.

According to news media, the attacker took advantage of interior ministry guards opening the compound's main gates to allow in electrical maintenance workers to ram his explosives-packed car through and set it off.

The renewed violence comes as Iraq's government is in turmoil after an arrest warrant was issued for Sunni Vice-President Tariq al-Hashemi on terror charges.

He denies the accusations.
