Arsonists remain at large in California
California authorities post $60,000 reward to catch arsonists responsible for 21 car fires in Hollywood area where damages extend to home once inhabited by the late Jim Morrison.
Authorities in California posted a $60,000 reward for any information about 21 cars which were set alight in rapid succession across the Hollywood area.
Officials said that this was one of the worst arson sprees in recent memories where fires started on a series of parked cars within a span of five hours spread to nearby buildings.
One of the buildings left damaged by the fire was the home of the late Doors frontman Jim Morrison on the street which inspired the song “Love Street” to be written.
All fires were set within a 2-square mile area with 17 fires in Hollywood and four others in West Hollywood.
Around 20,000 people per square mile live in the Hollywood area and the fires caused at least $350,000 in property damage.
No injuries were suffered according to fire officials but one fireman did suffer an injury while fighting the flames.
Extra police officers were deployed by authorities in an attempt to catch the perpetrators who remain at large as arrests are yet to be made.
