Strong winds in Britain leave two dead

Britain’s Met Office issues a severe weather warning following heavy rain and gusts of wind reaching 100 miles per hour swept across the country, disrupting road and rail traffic.

Two died and several others were injured when 100mph winds hit Britain, toppling trees. A man in his 50s driving a van through Tunbridge Wells was killed in one of the incidents.

Another man died in the English Channel when a small tanker was hit by a large wave. Falmouth coastguard in Cornwall said three men were airlifted from the boat and taken to hospital. One was dead on arrival, according to the Telegraph.

The storm halted ferries at Dover, airports closed and more than 25,000 people left without electricity.
