Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak should be hanged according to prosecutors on Thursday.

The prosecutors said he should be held fully responsible for the hundreds of protesters dead during the revolt against him.

Egyptians resenting Mubarak hoped that the Arab Spring would punish him for his oppressive rule and the death penalty would be the most appropriate solution.

Egypt’s new rulers would have the power to refuse the penalty from being carried out and there is some doubt as to whether the penalty would go through.

Since the commencement of his trial on 3 August 2011, Mubarak had been escorted to the courtroom on a hospital gurney.

Mubarak’s two sons, former security chief and six top police commanders are being charged alongside Mubarak with complicity in the deaths of around 800 protesters during the revolt which led to Mubarak’s expulsion on 11 February 2011 after 18 days.
