Two out of four urinating US Marines identified
Two out of the four US Marines recorded on video while urinating on Taliban corpses have been identified but names have not yet been released.
A Marine Corps official said that investigations into the video showing at least four US Marines urinating on corpses of Taliban fighters has resulted in the identification of two of the marines.
An internal inquiry and criminal investigation have been launched by the US Marines because of the video which was posted online.
The video was originally posted on YouTube but the origin remains unknown and while it has not been verified, certain signs appear to authenticate the video.
Officials would not confirm the location where the video was taken but reports suggested that the unit involved was based at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina which is a major military base.
The video was condemned by US and Afghan officials as well as the Taliban who said that it would not affect the political process.
US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta said the conduct was inappropriate for members of the US military.
Aghan President Hamid Karzai said the actions were inhuman and anyone responsible should be severely punished.
