Russia will refute military action by UN
UN Security Council will not be permitted to use military intervention in Syria as Russia says dialogue is the ideal path to resolve conflict.
Russia said it would restrict the UN Security Council from authorising military intervention in Syria and insisted that discussions would be the only way to avoid further conflict.
New sanctions against Syria are in being prepared by the EU while several leaders have condemned Syrian president Bashar al-Assad.
British Prime Minister David Cameron criticised the Syrian president for killing his own people and said that dialogue would not be effortless.
Russia’s foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said decisions involving military intervention by the UN Security Council would be refuted which struck a chord with the main opposition in the country.
The head of the Syrian opposition bloc National Coordination Committee Hassan Abdul Azim said that allowing such resolutions would threaten Syria’s freedom.
Russia’s Ambassador to Syria had met Abdul Azim and would continue discussions next month in Moscow.
Damascus pledged to push through reforms including parliamentary elections later in the year.
Many Syrians, although losing hope in their own country’s leadership, want peace in their country and anticipate this through the reforms.
