Libyans raid NTC headquarters in Benghazi

Some 200 protesters reportedly frustrated with the pace of reforms in Libya, stormed the grounds of the country’s transitional government (NTC) headquarters to demand a meeting with the nation’s interim leaders.

Residents in Benghazi, where the uprising against deposed leader Muammar Gaddafi broke out in February last year, have been protesting for nearly two weeks, demanding transparency and justice from the country's new leaders.

Some have pitched tents outside the NTC's headquarters to protest against a set of election laws they say were drafted by the interim leaders without consulting the public. The NTC is expected to pass the packet of laws that will determine how elections for a transitional parliament will be held. The council only took into account public suggestions through an online survey.

The NTC's handling of the draft laws has sparked criticism that the council is not living up to its democratic ideals.

Last week, NTC official Abdel-Hafez Ghoga was assaulted in Benghazi by protesters angry at what they said is the NTC's lack of transparency.

Today, the demonstrators used hand grenades to blow off the gates surrounding the compound housing the NTC's headquarters and banged on the building's doors. They shouted through windows at NTC members who could be seen pacing inside the building.

Some protesters were demanding more rights for fighters wounded during the civil war.

@Charles Philip Zammit.. of course Charles..but it is so sad these Imperialist Fascists of the West led by Israel has no humane intention of People First.. it is the Oil and Israel first..why was Iraq attacked?? why was Libya brought down to its knees, surely not because of Qaddafi ..but because as you said they can regain power on those oil fields.. Where is the NTC high command today?? It is alleged they are in Malta and Turkey (Press TV sources) All the Libyan Towns are now under Tribal Control where as Tripoli are in the hands of the likes of Bel Hag ..and many are still dying!! Thanks to Nato (and Israel), do not forget Qaddafi was very outspoken against this Apartheid State!!!

those who thought the downfall of the Ghaddafi regime would bring democracy in Libya must have been in for some wishful thinking. recent events have shown that Libya is now governed by gangs who are only in it for the ultimate prize black gold. this is the same prize the coalition of colonial powers went into the libyan war. democracy, democracy my foot
