Jean-Claude Mas, the owner of the French breast implant maker at the centre of an international health scandal, was arrested in the south of France. According to Reuters, the man could be charged with manslaughter.
Mas was arrested at his home in southern France. According to Reuters, Mas will be held for 48 hours while investigators decide whether to charge him with involuntary manslaughter and causing injury.
France has banned PIP implants made with industrial silicone in 2010. 30,000 women were advised to remove them. Health concerns were sparked after it was revealed that PIP had used low-grade gel in place of specialist medical materials.
