All of the 29 pupils from Alvechurch Church of England Middle School in Worcestershire have returned home, except four who are still in hospital being treated for serious injuries on Sunday morning.

Their teacher, Peter Rippington, 59, was left dead after their coach rolled down a 10ft ditch near the city of  Reims.

The students and their teacher were on their way back home from a half-term holiday in Valle d'Aosta skiing region. A total of 27 people were taken to two local hospitals following the crash, with 22 of those said to have minor injuries.

"We, as a family, are devastated at the tragic loss of Peter, a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, friend and teacher," the family of the teacher said.

"We are still extremely concerned about the health of his wife, Sharon, who was injured and is still recovering in hospital in France."

Rippington's wife and his daughter were on the trip with him.
