Two suicide bombings in Idlib continue to display defiance of the ceasefire in Syria in the latest eruption of violence between opposition and government forces.

At least nine people were killed by the explosions which occurred within minutes of each other near security service buildings.

One injured resident said his house had been reduced to rubble while his wife and children were asleep.

Syrian state television said nine people were killed in the blasts, included security personnel, blaming activists while opposing forces put the death toll at 20.

A young girl said she was scared after her house was destroyed while a woman described the act as cruel.

Despite the presence of UN monitors which are to increase in numbers, the violence in Syria does not appear to be decreasing while candidates prepare for parliamentary elections next week.

Although believed by some to be moving towards reform, critics express scepticism as the violence continues.
