Laid off in Malta, Sicilian returns home and takes his life

A 35-year-old Sicilian man who was laid off employment as a shop assistant in Malta, took his own life in Catania yesterday.

The incident made national headlines in Italy last night.

The 35 year-old Sicilian was said to have been depressed since being laid off from his employment in Malta in February, and returned to his mother's house in Catania.

According to Italian police, the man told his mother he was going to check on the television antenna, but leapt to his death a moment after.
