Just a day after a letter written by Osama bin Laden criticising explosive attacks on civilians was released by the US, a bomb in a Pakistani market killed 16 people this morning close to the Afghan market.

Abdul Haseeb, a government administrator, said that local security force members, one of whom had received an award for bravery, made up five of the 16 killed by the bomb in the Bajur region.

The remaining 11 killed were civilians walking past at the time and at least 40 other individuals were injured by the blast.

Suspects for the attack include the Pakistani Taliban or allied groups.

The US released at 17 letters written by bin Laden which had been seized from his compound by American soldiers after he was killed a year ago.

In one letter released on Thursday, bin Laden complained about actions by Pakistani Taliban which did wrong by killing civilians with bombs planted in markets and mosques.
