Two bombs went off in the Qazaz neighbourhood in Damascus which shook the Syrian capital at around 7:50am, the beginning of a working day.

A cloud of thick black smoke was sent into the sky from where the headquarters of a Syrian intelligence agency was located.

Forces loyal to President Bashar Assad have been trying to keep Central Damascus under their control but the city has been targeted by numerous bomb attacks.

Primary targets to date have included security installations or convoys.

The most recent explosion took place on 27 April and was caused by a suicide bomber in the capital city who detonated a belt of explosives wounding 26 and killing at least nine people.
