Jailed former Ukraine Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko ended her hunger strike after nearly three weeks according to a German specialist currently treating her for back pain.

The specialist, Neurologist Lutz Harms, said that Tymoshenko’s recovery following her hunger strike could last up to a month.

A thorough examination was carried out by Harms who will be carrying out an extensive ‘complex, multidimensional therapy’.

Tymoshenko was transferred by Ukranian prison authorities on 9 May due to concerns about her health while she serves a seven-year sentence for abuse-of-office charges.

Her hunger strike began on 20 April and Tymoshenko refused treatment from doctors from the Ukrainian penal system because she feared malpractice and treatment.
