15 killed in Nepal plane crash
A plane has crashed into a mountain in the Himalayas while trying to land at an airport in northern Nepal, killing 15 people and critically injuring six.
Three Nepalese, 16 Indians and two Westerners were aboard the Agni Air flight which crashed into the Himalayan mountains near Jomsom, killing 15 and leaving six critically injured
Police spokesman Binod Singh said the Agni Air plane crashed with 21 people on board near Jomsom, a popular area for trekkers near the Annapurna mountain range.
Singh said there were six survivors, including two children, who had been rescued and flown to the nearby city of Pokhara for treatment.
Police official Nareswor Aryal said the plane was carrying two pilots and a flight attendant - all Nepalese - along with 16 Indians and two Westerners.
He could not immediately say where the Westerners were from.
Authorities said initial investigations showed the plane might have suffered technical problems.
Prime minister Baburam Bhattarai issued a statement expressing condolences at the deaths of the 15 people.
Jomsom Airport is a gateway to a popular trekking destination, about 200 kilometres north west of the capital, Kathmandu.
