Newly appointed French President Francois Hollande together with German chancellor Angela Merkel expressed their support for debt-stricken Greece to remain in the euro zone.

As the country heads for a fresh election after failed attempts to form a government in Athens, the two leaders said that both wanted to keep Greece in the 17-nation group after their first meeting in Berlin.

Support was also offered to promote growth in the country and help it to emerge from his present crisis while reminding Greek politicians that the country’s commitments to the EU had to be fulfilled.

The French and German leaders met to get to know each other and ease tensions after Merkel had openly supported former President Nicolas Sarkozy. Holland hoped to see Greece reaffirm its adherence to the euro zone in the upcoming election.

Greece will be ruled by a caretaker government until the election expected to take place in four weeks.

Dear French and German leaders, the world isn't going to end if the 3% target is missed by a few points next year.

Simply a case of self-preservation and not any altruistic or supportive measures . As these two countries have the most to lose if Greece goes belly-up or leaves the eurozone.
