Britain offers military personnel for Syrian observer mission
Prime Minister David Cameron has said that Britain is prepared to deploy British military personnel to support the already present observer mission in Syria to increase pressure on Assad’s regime.
British Prime Minister David Cameron last night told fellow world leaders that more needs to be done to prevent Bashar al-Assad from oppressing his own people as conflict continues to spread in Syria.
Cameron said Britian would be willing to contribute British military personnel to a enlarged international mission in Syria.
This was said by Cameron during a Group of Eight summit in the US while there are now more than 200 United Nations monitors in Syria.
Since 2011, more 9,000 deaths have been recorded as Opposition to Assad’s rule continues to be suppressed by government forces.
Following negotiations with Assad by the former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, the monitors were in the country as part of a deal and was hoped to lead to a ceasefire and dialogue between the opposing sides.
Cameron stressed that Assad’s regime needed to be put under greater pressure since civilians are being killed at a rate of more than 30 a day in Syria.
