Days after the massacre of 100 people in Syria, 13 blindfolded and tied up corpses were apparently shot execution-style and discovered in eastern Syria.

International outrage was caused by the massacre and the expulsion of Syrian diplomats was coordinated as a result.

UN observers said the latest discovered corpses were discovered late on Tuesday in the Deir el-Zour province with their hands tied behind their backs and blindfolded.

The UN mission also added that some of the bodies appeared to have been shot in the head at close range and an online video taken by activists showed the men lying face down in pools of dried blood.

Major General Robert Mood, the head of the UN observer team, the act was “appalling and inexcusable”.

Around 13,000 people have been killed since President Bashar Assad began fighting the rebellion which began in March 2011.

Syrian diplomats have been expelled from the United States and other Western nations in protest which was criticised by Syria’s state-run media as “unprecedented hysteria” on Wednesday.
