Egypt President defies military to convene parliament
Egypt’s President Mohamed Morsi has defied military general to convene parliament on Tuesday.
Defying the military generals who have controlled Egypt since the 2011 revolution, President Mohamed Morsi said he was overruling the military law and convening Parliament on Tuesday.
A protest of a million men has been called for by the Muslim Brotherhood to support the president’s decision while the military together with Egypt’s highest court stood by their position regarding the dissolution of parliament.
Open conflict between Morsi and the military rulers is low despite their opposing stances since both cannot afford to push the other too far due to the amount at risk on both sides.
Morsi’s decision to convene parliament has been protested by some 25 cases but it will be the administrative court which will decide whether or not to overturn the presidential decree.
