UN and Hillary Clinton condemn massacre by Syrian government
UN Secretary-general condemns Syrian government for civilian-massacre and US Secretary of State urges UN to emphasise consequence if attacks continue.
The use of heavy artillery and shelling of populated areas by the Syrian government has been condemned by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
Ban Ki-moon said the latest massacre reports from Friday cast ‘serious doubt’ on the commitment by Syrian President Bashar Assad to the UN-brokered peace plan.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton urged the UN Security Council to emphasise that there will be consequences if Syria’s government fail to follow through with the ceasefire.
Clinton said the latest attack on civilians was evidence that Assad’s regime was deliberately intended to murder innocent civilians.
The latest death toll reported on Friday has reached more than 200 people according to Syrian opposition activists.
While activists have blamed the government for the massacre, the government has shifted blame for the attack on ‘terrorist groups’.
