North Korean media announces mystery woman as leader’s wife

North Korean state media announced that the country’s leader, Kim Jong Un was to be married to an unknown woman named Ri Sol Ju.

The woman has been seen by Kim’s side during official events but her identity remained a mystery and the marriage was announced on Wednesday during the opening ceremony of an amusement park.

After the Ri Sol Ju was presented as Kim Jong Un’s wife, the mystery woman triggered several theories to be made about her identity particularly in South Korean media.

The first prevailing theory is that the woman’s name is actually Hyon Song-wol whose name belongs to the lead singer of a musical group who is known to be a “horse-like-lady” in her strong work ethic.

In another theory, the woman is identified as Ri So Ju who is a singer with the Unhasu Orchestra which is highly favoured by the leader and is from an elite family.

Few details have been discovered about Kim Jong Un but according to a university professor in South Korea, this announcement is expected to be part of a trend of greater openness under Kim’s leadership.
