US presidential candidate Matt Romney has received criticism from mayor of London Boris Johnson, after saying Britain was not prepared to host the 2012 Olympic Games.

While addressing a crowd in Hyde Park, Johnson fired the people up telling them to prove Romney, a Republican who will be taking on Barack Obama in elections to be held in November, wrong.

Romney retracted the statement, which was made on the first day of a week-long official tour which is to include Israel and Poland, after meeting UK Prime Minister David Cameron

Mayor Boris Johnson fired up the crowd in Hyde Park yesterday after the Olympic torch was carried through the streets of London.

He said Britain was prepared, unlike Romney who commented on difficulties with security guards and possible staff strikes in London.

After meeting with Cameron, Romney applauded the work of the organising committee dealing with the Olympic Games in London.
