Dialogue in Syria will only happen if Assad or opposition is defeated
In a statement made by Syria’s Information Minister, President al-Assad will only hold dialogue with the opposition once the regime has defeated the rebels.
The decision to withhold from any form of dialogue with opposition until the rebels have been defeated has confirmed President Bashar al-Assad’s determination to prove his power over Syria on the battlefield at the risk of killing more of his people.
This decision was revealed in a statement just a day after activists reported August to have been the month with the most bloodshed since March 2011 when the uprising began.
Information Minister Omran al-Zoebi said that there will be no dialogue held with the opposition until the Syrian army has gained security and stability in all parts of Syria.
However, the opposition has long been stated that until Assad has been removed from power, talks will not be held with the regime.
The new UN envoy to Syria has acknowledged that bringing the civil war to an end will be difficult as death tolls kept by major activist groups reach at least 23,000 to as high as 26,000 people throughout the entire revolt.
