Drug lord captured by marines in Mexico

Mexico’s security forces said that one of the world’s most wanted drug traffickers, Ivan Velazquez Caballero, has been arrested.

Velazquez Caballero, known by the names El Taliban and Z-59, is the leader of the Zetas which is a violent criminal network thought to control some of the most important drug routes into the US.

The drug lord was captured by marines in the city of San Luis Potosi just days after it was reported that he had left the Zetas and joined a rival cartel.

A bounty of 30 million pesos (€1,810,362) was set for Velazquez Caballero who ruled his territory with cold brutality and was said to have been at war with another top leader of the Zetas gang, Miguel Trevino who is known as Z-40.
