Bomb explosions kill 34 people in Syria
At least 34 people, mostly regime troops, are killed in bomb explosions in Aleppo, allegedly carried out by suicide bombers.
A series of bomb explosions in the centre of Syria’s second city, Aleppo, have left at least 34 people killed and numerous others wounded.
Buildings located in the city’s main square were brought down to road level in the attacks with a military’s officers’ club and hotel used by the military bearing the worst of the impact which completely destroying them.
Some of the attacks were committed by suicide car bombers as the battle continues between rebels and President Bashar al-Assad’s forces in the city.
Despite heavy bombardments on land as well as air, government forces failed to push back rebel fighters but are preparing for a major offensive.
The majority of those killed by the latest attacks were regime troops but many civilians were also killed according to Syrian government officials and other witnesses.
Following the explosions, state television reported that two or three “terrorists” wearing military uniforms and explosive vests were shot dead before any further attacks could be carried out.
Syria’s state-run news agency claimed the bombings were carried out by “terrorists” but speaker of the Syrian parliament Jihad al-Laham said the attacks were committed by foreign powers supporting opposition rebel groups.
