Landslide buries 19 persons under rubble in China
Landslide topples over elementary school burying 18 students and a house burying another person in China.
At least 19 persons, 18 of which are students, have been buried under rubble after an elementary school building was toppled by a landslide in south-western China.
The landslide hit a village in Yiliang county in Yunnan province according to Chinese government officials on Thursday morning.
A statement on the Yiliang government website said 18 students believed to have been in the school building have been buried under the rubble after the landslide caused it to collapse and another person was trapped when a few houses were toppled nearby.
Rescuers have arrived at the site but count foreign affairs officials said the village is a three-hour drive from the county seat.
Residents nearby have been moved from the area as a precautionary measure.
