7.4 million vehicles to be recalled by Toyota

More than seven million Toyota vehicles worldwide are to be recalled over faulty window switches.

Toyota announced that it is voluntarily recalling 7.4 million cars worldwide over faulty window switches.

Some 1.39million cars in Europe - 138,000 cars in the UK alone, 2.47 million in the United States and 1.4million in China will be affected.

Some 459,000 vehicles in Japan, 650,000 in Australia and Asia, including hundreds of thousands from the Middle East and Canada are also being recalled.

No accidents, injuries or deaths have been reported as a result of the window fault.

This will be the biggest single recall of vehicles since Ford recalled around eight million vehicles in 1996.

Models affected by the faulty switches include certain models of the Yaris, Vios, Corolla, Matrix, Auris, Camry, RAV4, Highlander, Tundra, Sequoia, xB and xD produced between 2005 and 2010.

The models affected in the UK are the RAV4, Yaris, Auris and Corolla.

Drivers with the affected models will be contacted by Toyota over the coming weeks to bring their car in for checks to see if there is a fault.
