Conjoined twins in UK successfully separated
Conjoined twins Rosie and Ruby, whose father is Maltese, have been successfully separated at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Conjoined twins Rosie and Ruby underwent a successful operation which saw them being separated and are now expected to live normal lives.
The girls, whose father is Maltese, were joined at the abdomen and shared part of an intestine. The pair underwent emergency surgery at London's Great Ormond Street Hospital just a day after they were born on July 27.
News of the successful operation hit headlines today in the UK after an interview was carried out by PA with mother Angela Formosa.
Formosa, who is also the mother of a five-year-old girl, described the shock and sadness when she first heard the news. The doctors decided to deliver the babies at 34 weeks. The next day the girls underwent surgery.
They are expected to live normal lives but will need further treatment in the future.
