British fugitive kills himself, ending week-long manhunt

British fugitive Raoul Moat shot himself after seven days on the run, allegedly wanted for wounding ex-girlfriend Samantha Stobbart, 22, and killing her new boyfriend.

Moat was the subject of a seven-day manhunt, one of the worst in British history, and surfaced yesterday in Rothbury, northern England. He was wanted for shooting an unarmed police officer, killing his ex-girlfriend’s partner Chris Brown, 29, and wounding his ex-girlfriend.

The 37-year old former nightclub bouncer and father of three, was cornered by armed officers in a field late on Friday, shooting himself shortly after.

"At around 1.15am, from information available at the moment, it appears the suspect shot himself. It appears no gunshots were fired by police officers," Northumbria Police said in a statement.

Moat told police he had a grudge against the people he chose to hurt or kill. Ex-girlfriend Stobbart had allegedly lied to him that she was dating a police officer, in an attempt to keep him away.
