Gunfire breaks the Golan Height silence
Years of calm have repeatedly been broken as as Israel returned fire when Syrian forces shot a military vehicle at Golan.
Syrian forces claimed that the vehicle having crossed the cease-fire line entered their territory and was heading to the village of Bir Ajam. They opened fire on the vehicle, which was destroyed together with everything it carried.
Israeli troops stated that they returned fire after their vehicle was hit. Chief ofstaff Lt Gen Benny Gantz held that Israel would sit back and see the Golan Heights become a free reign for the troops of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Since 1948, the two nations have been at war with Israel taking control of Golan in 1967. For years the area went through a period of calm but in recent weeks the two forces have repeatedly exchanged shots.
