Three more arrested over Woolwich murder

British police have detained three other men over last Wednesday’s murder of soldier Lee Rigby in Woolwich.

Counter terrorism officers had to use Taser guns on two of the men, during the operation that saw the three men aged 21, 24 and 28 being arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. The 24-year-old and the 28-year-old were arrested from a residence in south-east London while the 21-year-old was arrested from the streets in Charlton Lane, Charlton. Neither of the two shot with Taser guns needed medical treatment.

Last Wednesday Drummer Rigby was run over and then attacked in Woolwich. Moments after, Michael Adebolajo was filmed saying he had carried out the attack because British soldiers killed Muslims every day. Adebolajo, 28, and Michael Adebowale, 22, were shot, wounded and arrested by the police at the murder scene. They are still recovering in hospital under custody. Their condition is stable. Both Mr Adebolajo and Mr Adebowale, are Britons of Nigerian descent.

In the same investigation, a 29-year-old man who was arrested on Thursday was granted bail while two women, aged 29 and 31, were released from custody without being charged.

On Saturday, scores of motorcyclists supporting the Help For Heroes charity rode past the murder scene in a show of support for Drummer Rigby's family as tributes kept pouring in with an ever increasing number of flowers being placed where the soldier was killed. The Nigerian community also paid its respects and held a solidarity march from Plumstead station to Woolwich town centre.
