Five cabinet members resign

Five ministers from President Morsi's cabinet tender their resignation to the Egyptian prime minister

Five Egyptian government ministers have stepped down with more resignations expected in the coming hours.

The ministers of tourism, environment, communication and legal affairs tendered their resignation together to Prime Minister Hisham Qandil. Last month tourism minister Hisham Zazou attempted to resign after President Morsi appointed an activist of an Islamic party linked to a massacre of tourists, as governor of the temple city.

The information, confirmed by Egyptian State TV, said protests and public disobedience will continue unless President Morsi himself resigns. Over 14 million Egyptians have given the president until 5pm tomorrow to quit office.

The offices of the Muslim Brotherhood in Cairo was set ablaze and looted. People were seen leaving the building with petrol bombs, bulletproof vests and military helmets. Others chose to take furniture, electronic equipment and documentation.

Protestors claim the situation in Egypt became worse than it was prior to the Arab Spring. Other demonstrators urged President Morsi to listen to the people and play by democratic rules.

Meanwhile Tahir Square witnessed a rally by pro-Morsi.  Sunday's demonstrations were the largest since the protests which led to the ousting of Hosni Mubarak in 2011.

8 people were killed and reports claimed more than 43 women had been sexually assaulted by gangs in Tahir Square.

The Egyptian Army has not yet intervened but stated it would react if the situation escalated and threatens national security.
