Egypt towards Interim Government

Egypt's interim president has made some political progress by appointing a new prime minister but faces problems with his election timetable.

Former finance minister Hazem el Beblawi is to become prime minister while liberal politician Mohamed Elbaradei has taken the role of vice-president.

In a move designed to win over supporters of ousted president Mohamed Mursi, offers have also been made of government posts to the Muslim Brotherhood.

However interim President Adly Mansour has had one unexpected set back - Egypt's liberal coalition has rejected a timetable for elections and a new constitution due to lack of consultation.

Meanwhile wealthy Arab allies in the Gulf have promised around six billion euros worth of aid. This has been widely seen as a gesture to help stabilise the deeply divided country.
