Updated | Royal baby: wait is over as Duchess gives birth to son

The Duchess of Cambridge gives birth to baby boy at St Mary's Hospital in London.

Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton has given birth to a baby boy, a statement from the Kensington Palace said.

Prince William's wife was taken to St Mary's Hospital in London early this morning having gone into labour at Kensington Palace.

The baby boy weighed eight pounds six ounces and was delivered in the Lindo wing at 4.34pm. Both mother and son are said to be doing well.

Royal tradition could mean that the baby's name is not announced for at least a week.

It will be the duke and duchess's first child and will be third in line to the throne.

This is an exact example of how the international media can bloat itself into ga-ga land.

Really who cares? Monarchy, kings, queens, princes, princesses, dukes, nobles, fairies, thrones. Yaaawn! This is stuff for children's books NOT newspapers.
