18 sailors trapped in Indian submarine after explosion

An Indian submarine caught fire after an explosion in a Mumbai dockyard.

India's defence minister confirmed there have been numerous deaths on board, with media reports saying 18 sailors were feared trapped.

The blast on the INS Sindhurakshak took place after midnight and fire-fighters spent four hours putting out the fire.

Officials said the diesel-powered vessel was badly damaged.

It remains partly submerged at its berth.
