New conspiracy theory over Lady Di's death
In-laws of British soldier claim the British Special Air Service could have been behind the death of Princess Diana in 1997.
16 years after the death of Princess Diana, a new conspiracy theory has surfaced blaming the hit on the British military.
A British newspaper revealed how in a seven page handwritten letter sent to military authorities and the London police, the in-laws of a British special forces sniper alleged the elite British Special Air Service commando unit was responsible for the killings. However a statement issued by the London Police read that there is no re-investigation of the case. The newspaper claimed the un-named soldier had boasted about this with his wife before their marriage fell apart.
Princess Di then 36, her boyfriend Dodi Fayed aged 42 and their driver, were killed when their Mercedes-Benz hit a pillar in the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in August 1997. The princess would now be a royal grand mother. The couple were being chased by paparazzi after leaving the Ritz Hotel. Investigations concluded Henri Paul the driver who died in the crash, was driving at high speed while intoxicated. The only survivor was bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones.
Over 2.5 billion people worldwide watched the princess's funeral.
In 2008 a British inquiry concluded that grossly negligent driving of the following vehicles and of the Mercedes were the reason for the three deaths. No evidence of murder was ever found of presented to authorities however conspiracy theories accusing intelligence services and royalty regularly surface in the news.
