Special forces storm residence of police killer
Hunter kills three officers and a paramedic before special forces storm his residence in Austria
The body of a suspected killer was yesterday found burnt at the suspect's own residence near Melk in Austria. The man was wanted by the police for the killing of three policemen and a paramedic.
On Monday police officers tried to arrest notorious deer poacher Alois Huber, 55 over charges of hunting close to Annaberg. When officers tried to stop his vehicle the man opened fire injuring one of the officers. A paramedic who tried to assist the officer was shot dead on the scene and another officer was injured. The policeman died later in hospital.
Realising his car was disabled, Huber escaped on foot. During his getaway he shot another officer dead and took a fourth as hostage. He managed to get into a police vehicle and arrive at his residence about 90km away were he dispatched his hostage.
A team of commandoes and over 100 police officers surrounded the farmhouse. Military vehicles backed up the personnel. Huber shot in the direction of the authorities and moments later his residence was stormed by a team of Special Forces.
While searching the farmhouse officers gained entrance into a secret room from one of the kitchen walls. The room was ablaze, and when the fire was put out, the body of a man was found inside. An autopsy is expected to confirm if the body belongs to Huber.
