Spain's King undergoes eighth operation in three years

Spain’s King Juan Carlos has left hospital just one week after yet more surgery connected to his hip replacement.

This latest operation was the 75-year-old monarch’s eighth in just over three years.

Speculation is growing of a possible abdication in favour of his son Felipe, despite constant denials by the palace.

The head of state must now fight off the infection with the aid of intravenous antibiotics before undergoing yet another operation in about two months to fit a permanent replacement joint.
