Russia drops Greenpeace cases
Russian authorities drop criminal charges against the first of 30 people accused over a Greenpeace oil rig protest in the Arctic.
Criminal charges facing the first of 30 crew members of the 'Arctic Sunrise' have been dropped by Russian authorities, their lawyer said.
The Greenpeace activists had been accused of hooliganism, which carries a seven-year sentence, after they staged a protest on an Arctic oil rig in September.
The 28 activists and two freelance journalists were arrested in September as they staged a protest at a Russian offshore oil rig.
They are being granted amnesty under a new Russian law which has seen several high profile releases in recent days.
