July has been the deadliest month for US in Afghan war

The month of July has been the deadliest that the American forces have experienced in the nine years they have been fighting  in the Afghanistan war. 63 US service members were killed this month.

This surpassed June’s record of 60, after it was confirmed that the three soldiers killed in the south of the country on Thursday were Americans.

Last December, US President Barack Obama ordered 30.000 reinforcements to be sent to Afghanistan. UK and Afghan troops launched a major offensive against the Taliban in Helmand.

On Friday morning, British and Afghan troops forced into the Nad Ali district of Helmand, aiming to flush the Taliban from one of its strongholds in the province.

BBC news reports that Operation Tor Shezada, which means black prince, is said to be UK forces’ largest operations since  Moshtarak in February 2010.
